Ceratostigma willmottianum (Chinese plumbago)
Ceratostigma willmottianum, is a deciduous shrub native to western China where it grows in mountain slopes and scrublands. The flowers of ceratostigma willmottianum are distinguished by their intense blue petals arranged in a five-pointed star formation, contrasting with reddish to purple calyces that persist after flowering. The species has been recognized by the Royal Horticultural Society with the Award of Garden Merit for its ornamental value. Several cultivars are available. Photographed in Virginia.
