Ceratostema silvicola Flowers

Ceratostema silvicola is a rare neotropical species native to Ecuador, along the humid montane forests of the Andes foothills. The plant grows as an epiphytic or terrestrial shrub. The flowers are distinctive for their pendulous clusters of tubular corollas, typically bright red with darkened purple-black lobes at the tips. The inflorescences are borne in clusters, with each bloom measuring about 1 to 1.5 inches in length. The flowers are edible. Photographed near Puyo, Colombia.
