Catesbaea spinosa (Lily Thorn)
Native to Cuba and the Bahamas, this slow-growing evergreen shrub or small tree belongs to the coffee family. In cultivation, it can grow about 8 feet tall. Corky bark and thorny branches carry very small, deep-green leaves. Pendulous yellow to creamy-white trumpet flowers can reach about 6 inches long; flowering is reported during summer in southern Florida. The yellow fruits are edible, with pleasantly tart flesh. Photographed in Florida.
