Cassia moschata flowers forming dense golden-yellow clusters with rounded petals and long curved stamens, alongside dark unopened buds
Cassia moschata

Originating from southern Mexico and extending through Central America into northern South America, Cassia moschata is a small to medium tree adapted to tropical lowlands where it thrives in warm, humid climates. The inflorescences are made up of dense, pendulous clusters, where each flower forms a near-rounded structure with overlapping golden petals that transition to orange at the base. The blossoms display long, arched stamens that extend well beyond the petals and curl outward, a distinctive trait that creates a striking layered effect when viewed up close. Unopened buds appear as dark, almost spherical structures that contrast strongly with the vivid yellow of the flowers. This arrangement results in branches bearing both unopened buds and open blooms simultaneously, producing a multistage display that extends the visual impact of the flowering season. The flowering display consists of rounded golden blossoms borne in clusters along the branches, with long protruding yellow stamens that curve outward. The tree blooms profusely in seasonal flushes, often forming dense cascades of color that cover the canopy. Photographed in Panama.
