Native to northeastern Brazil, northern Brazil, southeastern Brazil, Cayman Is., Colombia, and Costa Rica and nearby regions, this is a shrub in the Salicaceae family. Documented elevations extend from about 33 to 820 feet. It develops branching woody stems and dense foliage, with flowers arranged singly or in inflorescences.
