Cascabela thevetia (Yellow Oleander)

Native from Mexico through tropical South America, this evergreen shrub or small tree can reach about 20 to 30 feet tall in warm climates. It has narrow, glossy leaves and fragrant, funnel-shaped yellow or apricot flowers. The fleshy fruits turn black as they mature and contain hard, nut-like seeds. All parts are highly poisonous if swallowed; the milky sap can cause allergic skin reactions, and smoke from burning the plant can be toxic. It is invasive in Queensland, Australia, where it has spread into bushland, streamside habitats, and coastal vegetation. Photographed in Barranquilla, Colombia.
