Calliandra pittieri is native to Central America, Colombia and Ecuador. It is a small tree that can reach up to about 15–20 ft in height, adapted to warm, and humid climates. The flowers are produced in dense, rounded heads up to 2–3 in across, composed of numerous small tubular florets that open into long, thread-like stamens. In this species, the stamens are uniquely coiled in bud and unfurl upon opening, with a color gradient from white at the base to pink or red near the tips, creating a multicolored appearance within a single inflorescence. These stamens form a soft, intricate texture that is visually striking even before full expansion.
