Close-up of a cluster of bright yellow pouch-shaped flowers of Calceolaria crenata, showing fine hair-covered stems and buds against a rocky background
Calceolaria crenata

This perennial herb is native to high-altitude regions of the northern Andes. Its distinctive flowers have inflated, slipper-like corollas in vivid yellow, often with a faint reddish speckling inside, adapted for pollination primarily by small insects that access nectar through a small opening. The foliage is covered with soft hairs, and the leaves are usually oval with shallowly toothed margins. Photographed in Ecuador.
