The Muscovy duck is a large, predominantly black and white bird native to the Americas, ranging from Texas to Argentina. Males are significantly larger than females, with males about 30 inches long and weighing up to 15 pounds, while females grow to roughly half the size. These ducks have iridescent and glossy back feathers in males, while females are more drab. Both sexes feature pink or red wattles around the bill, more prominent in males. Adapted to tropical environments, they nevertheless thrive in cooler climates, surviving temperatures as low as 10°F. Muscovy ducks have established feral populations in various parts of the world, including New Zealand, Australia, Central and Eastern Europe, and parts of the United States and Canada.
