Caesalpinia cassioides
Caesalpinia cassioides is a flowering shrub native to Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. The plant produces racemes of tubular flowers that are deep red with contrasting yellow throats. Each blossom features long, prominent stamens that extend well beyond the petals, aiding in pollen transfer during visits by pollinators. Its foliage consists of pinnate leaves with several pairs of oval leaflets, which provide a soft, feathery texture to the plant’s appearance. Photographed in southern Colombia.
