Bomarea linifolia

Native from western Colombia to northern Ecuador, this perennial herbaceous vine grows from underground stems and can reach about 13 feet. It occurs in high Andean vegetation; in Colombia, it is recorded between about 7,900 and 13,100 feet in the Andes and Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Small flower clusters form at the ends of the stems. The outer flower parts are orange or red, while the yellow inner petals have contrasting dark markings. Its stems can be purple and covered with whitish hairs. Photographed in the páramo of Puracé, Colombia.
