Blakea granatensis

Endemic to Colombia, this woody shrub or climber can grow on other trees as an epiphyte. It inhabits wet forests in the Andes and Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, between about 3,600 and 8,200 feet in Colombia. The flowers have six petals and two pairs of bracts beneath each bloom. Their anthers are joined together and release pollen through small pores. Fleshy berries develop after flowering. Photographed in the eastern Andes mountain range of Colombia.
