Billbergia pyramidalis upright flower spike with bright red bracts and tubular flowers tipped with purple, surrounded by green strap-like leaves
Billbergia pyramidalis

Native to Brazil, Billbergia pyramidalis, commonly called the flaming torch, is a terrestrial or epiphytic bromeliad found in coastal forests, restinga vegetation, and rocky outcrops. It forms a rosette of stiff, arching, strap-like leaves that channel water toward the center, a trait common among bromeliads for nutrient and moisture collection. In its blooming phase, it sends up a central, erect inflorescence surrounded by bright red bracts, densely packed with tubular flowers whose tips are often purple to blue. Photographed in Florida.
