Native to Florida in the United States, Berlandiera subacaulis, commonly called Florida green-eyes, is a short-lived perennial herb adapted to dry, sandy habitats such as scrub, sandhills, and coastal uplands. It produces basal rosettes of lobed or toothed leaves from which emerge slender, often hairy stems 8–20 in tall, each bearing a solitary flower head. The blooms feature bright yellow ray florets surrounding a central disc composed of greenish-yellow florets that give the species its common name. Flowering occurs mainly from late winter through spring. Photographed in Florida.
