Berberis meollacensis

Native to high-elevation regions of the Colombian Andes, Berberis meollacensis grows in páramo and subpáramo habitats, typically between 8,500 and 13,000 ft where cool temperatures, high humidity, and frequent mist prevail. This evergreen shrub forms dense, spiny branches and bears small, leathery, glossy green leaves. Photographed in the eastern Andes of Colombia.
