Native to Europe and parts of western Asia, Bellis perennis, commonly known as the common daisy or English daisy, is a perennial herbaceous plant often forming dense mats through creeping rhizomes. It produces solitary flower heads on leafless stems 2–8 in tall, each consisting of a central yellow disc of tubular florets surrounded by a single row of white ray florets, sometimes tinged pink or red toward the tips. Flowering can occur nearly year-round in mild climates. Numerous horticultural varieties have been bred for larger blooms and a wider range of colors, including pink, crimson, and bi-colored forms. The young leaves and flower buds are sometimes consumed raw in salads for their mild, slightly bitter flavor. Photographed in Peru.
