Begonia urticae (Nettle-leaved Begonia) is a subshrub native from Costa Rica through Panama and the northern Andes to northwestern Venezuela and Peru. In Colombia it occurs in Andean habitats from approximately 5,250 to 13,100 feet and may grow as an herb, shrub, or climbing plant. The stems, flower stalks, and floral parts are conspicuously hairy.

The flowers have vivid red tepals surrounding the reproductive structures, while the foliage has sharply toothed margins. Colombian records extend across all three Andean ranges and adjoining departments. The species is assessed as Least Concern in Colombia. Photographed in Colombia.
