Begonia urticae (Nettle-leaved Begonia)

Native from Costa Rica through Panama and the northern Andes to northwestern Venezuela and Peru, this subshrub grows in Andean habitats from approximately 5,250 to 13,100 feet. It may grow as an herb, shrub, or climbing plant. The stems, flower stalks, and floral parts are conspicuously hairy, while vivid red tepals and sharply toothed leaves distinguish the species.
