Begonia mannii
Native to the humid forests of Cameroon in Central Africa, this perennial begonia is adapted to shaded understory habitats where temperatures remain warm year-round and moisture levels are consistently high. It produces distinctive pendulous flowers with pink outer tepals and elongated yellow stamens tipped with reddish filaments, hanging from red-tinged stems beneath large, glossy leaves. Begonia mannii is uncommon in general horticulture but sought after by collectors and specialty growers for its unusual floral coloration and graceful drooping habit. Photographed in Florida.
