Begonia mannii
Native to western and west-central tropical Africa, this climbing or trailing perennial subshrub has succulent stems that can reach about 16 feet long. It grows on trees in humid forests. Male and female flower clusters usually occur on separate branches. The pink-red flowers have four unequal tepals; female flowers have long, dark red styles with bright yellow bases. Its wingless fruits are narrow and often curved like small bananas. Photographed in Florida.
