Bauhinia tarapotensis
Native to the upper Amazon Basin, Bauhinia tarapotensis occurs primarily in Peru, Ecuador, and parts of western Brazil. The climbing shrub is well adapted to humid, high-rainfall environments and can be found both in undisturbed forest and along disturbed edges where sunlight penetrates. It is distinguished by its unusual flowers, composed of six or more long, ribbon-like white petals that arch or curve dramatically outward, creating a spider-like appearance. These petals are accompanied by prominent stamens that extend beyond the corolla. Photographed in Eucador.
