Bauhinia madagascariensis
Endemic to Madagascar, Bauhinia madagascariensis is a shrub that typically inhabits dry forest edges, open scrublands, and degraded habitats where it benefits from full sunlight. It is distinguished by its striking flowers composed of five broad petals, the uppermost petal often displaying a contrasting yellow base. The species’ leaves are bilobed or rounded, providing a dense green canopy when in full leaf. It is not widely cultivated outside its native range. Photographed in Florida.
