Baccharis dioica

Native to southeastern Mexico and the Caribbean, and historically southern Florida, this perennial shrub usually grows about 3 to 6 feet tall. It inhabits coastal woodland edges, dune hollows, and areas near mangroves. Fragrant white or yellow flower heads appear in fall, with male and female flowers on separate plants. The seeds are dispersed by wind. It tolerates salt spray but cannot withstand flooding by salt or brackish water. It is listed as endangered in Florida and is believed to have disappeared from the wild there. Photographed in Florida.
