Baccharis boliviensis

Native to the high-altitude Andes of Bolivia, Peru, northern Chile, and Argentina, Baccharis boliviensis is a perennial shrub in the Asteraceae family adapted to rocky, windswept slopes and puna grasslands, often found between 10,000 and 15,000 feet in elevation. This hardy species forms low, spreading clumps or irregular shrubs with slender, woody stems and narrow, linear leaves. Its small, pale-yellow to cream-colored flower heads develop in dense clusters at the tips of branches, with a structure typical of the Baccharis genus, consisting of numerous tiny florets. The foliage contains aromatic compounds common in Baccharis species. Photographed in Peru.
