Asystasia intrusa is a fast-growing perennial ascending herb native to tropical Asia but now widely naturalized in parts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas, particularly in disturbed habitats, roadsides, and agricultural fields. It belongs to the family Acanthaceae and is characterized by slender, twining stems and opposite, ovate leaves with smooth margins. The flowers are tubular with five lobes, predominantly white but accented with purple or violet streaks on the lower lip. The species is considered invasive in some regions due to its ability to spread rapidly by both seeds and vegetative growth, often forming dense mats that can smother native vegetation. Photographed in Chocó, Ecuador.
