Argemone mexicana (Mexican Poppy)
Native to Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, and central Mexico and nearby regions, this is an herbaceous plant in the Papaveraceae family. It is widely distributed across various regions. Mexican Poppy is resilient to drought and is considered a noxious weed in some regions. Argemone mexicana may have health benefits for treating skin conditions and digestive problems. Naturalized in Colombia below 7,000 feet. Photographed in Tubara, Colombia.
