Araujia odorata bears cream-colored star-shaped flowers with prominent pale crowns beside dark arrow-shaped leaves

Araujia odorata (Strangler Vine)

Native to central South America, from Bolivia through parts of Brazil and northern Argentina, this perennial climber has twining stems that become woody near the base and contain milky latex. Its opposite leaves are often arrow-shaped. Pale green to creamy flowers have five spreading lobes and a tubular crown at the center. Large seed pods release dark seeds with tufts of silky hairs. It has been introduced to Florida, where it is a weed of citrus groves. Its twining stems can climb over trees and other vegetation. Photographed in Ecuador.
