An Anthurium urbanii spadix curves downward with tightly packed small yellow flowers

Anthurium urbanii

Native from Costa Rica to Ecuador, this perennial herb grows on the ground or as an epiphyte. In Colombia, it grows in Pacific lowlands and Andean habitats. Plants can reach about eight feet tall. The leaves have deeply lobed bases and strongly raised veins beneath. Inflorescences arise near the base, with a narrow spathe surrounding an elongated flower-bearing spadix. Photographed in Florida.
