Anthurium bakeri
Native from Chiapas, Mexico through Central America to Guyana and Ecuador, this compact evergreen perennial herb grows on trees in wet tropical forests. Its narrow, strap-shaped leaves have tiny glandular dots on their undersides. The pale yellow-green spathe sometimes has purple-tinged edges and surrounds a cream-white spadix bearing tiny flowers. These develop into bright red berries with pointed tips. In cultivation, it regularly forms full spikes of berries without hand pollination. All parts are harmful if eaten, and the sap can irritate skin and eyes. Photographed in Barranquilla, Colombia.
