Anethum graveolens (Dill)
Native to the Mediterranean region and southwestern Asia, dill is an aromatic annual herb with finely divided foliage. Its upright stems branch above the base and bear broad, flat clusters of small yellow flowers. Both the fresh foliage and the dried fruits are used as culinary seasonings. Its flowers attract bees, hoverflies and other beneficial insects, and its leaves feed black swallowtail caterpillars. The plant readily produces seed, allowing successive generations to appear where it has grown previously. Photographed in Colombia.
