Allium stipitatum
Native from southeastern Türkiye to Central Asia and Pakistan, this bulbous herbaceous perennial can reach about 5 feet tall. Broad, gray-green basal leaves are hairy underneath, while upright stalks carry tightly packed, rounded clusters of small, lilac-pink flowers in early summer. It is grown as an ornamental onion in borders and gravel gardens. Established plants tolerate drought. New plants can be raised from seed or by separating offsets from the parent bulb. Photographed in Florida.
