Allamanda blanchetii (Purple Allamanda)

Native to northeastern Brazil, this evergreen climbing shrub or scrambling vine produces flowers throughout the year in warm climates. Its funnel-shaped blooms open reddish purple and fade to pink, creating a two-toned display. Its prickly capsules split open to release winged seeds. It can also be propagated from stem cuttings. It has naturalized in Queensland, Australia. All parts are poisonous if eaten, and the sap can cause skin irritation. Photographed in Florida and Barranquilla, Colombia.
