Alibertia patinoi (Borojó)

Native to Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Panamá, this is a shrub in the Rubiaceae family. One of seven native Colombian species of the genus Alibertia with a habitat below 4,000 feet. The fruit is used in juice with milk and tastes like a chocolate drink. The fruit has very high levels of amino acids (protein) and polyphenols (antioxidants). The cream-colored flowers emit a subtle fragrance. Photographed in Floridablanca, Colombia.
