Endemic to southeastern Brazil, this bromeliad inhabits exposed rocky outcrops in the Serra dos Órgãos region of Rio de Janeiro state, where it grows terrestrially or lithophytically in nutrient-poor substrates under high solar exposure. It produces a robust rosette that stores water at its base and sends up a tall, branched floral spike with tightly clustered yellow bracts. The flowers display strongly recurved yellow corolla lobes and a distinctive projection of white stamens that extend well beyond the floral tube. The prominent stamens are arranged in two whorls and are capped with bright yellow anthers. It is considered a species of conservation interest due to its limited natural distribution. Photograhed in Florida.
