Branch of Ageratina aristei with rounded clusters of white, thread-like flowers emerging above broad, veined leaves in a forest understory
Ageratina aristei

Native to montane forests of the Andes in Colombia. This species is recognized by its rounded corymbs of dense, white flowers composed of numerous long, thread-like styles and stigmas, giving them a fluffy appearance. Like other members of the genus, this species contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which are toxic if ingested in large amounts and serve as a natural deterrent to herbivores. Photographed in Colombia.
