Agalinis lanceolata is a hemiparasitic herbaceous plant native to high-altitude regions of the Andes, particularly in páramo and montane forest transitions of Ecuador and Peru. It belongs to the family Orobanchaceae, which includes other partially parasitic plants. This species features lanceolate leaves and an abundance of showy, pink to purplish tubular flowers with spotted throats, which emerge from the leaf axils. The flowers are bilaterally symmetrical with extended stamens, adapted for pollination by native bees. Despite its small size, Agalinis lanceolata plays a role in the biodiversity of páramo ecosystems by parasitizing the roots of neighboring plants for nutrients while maintaining its own photosynthesis. Photographed in Peru.
