Commonly referred to as Copperleaf, this large tropical evergreen shrub hails from the islands of the Pacific and has successfully established itself in various tropical parts of the world due to its decorative appeal. A very common ornamental in Florida. The plant's striking foliage has various color patterns depending on the cultivars creating a vivid display that contrasts with its flowers, which hold no significant aesthetic value. Thriving best in full sun exposure, the plant's attractive pigmentation comes to life, particularly when it is grown under warm temperatures. Beyond its visual allure, Copperleaf holds a medicinal potential. An ointment made from the plant has been shown to successfully control a group of fungal skin diseases in most of the affected patients. Photographed in Florida and Cali, Colombia.
