Acacia retinodes bears rounded yellow flowerheads among long narrow phyllodes in sunlight

Acacia retinodes (Wirilda)

Native to southeastern South Australia, this evergreen shrub or small tree develops an open, spreading crown and can reach about 20 feet tall. Its leaf-like structures are flattened leaf stalks called phyllodes. Rounded yellow flowerheads appear intermittently through the year, giving it a longer flowering season than many wattles. It is naturalized in Colombia, where it is recorded in Bogotá and Cundinamarca between about 8,400 and 9,200 feet. Photographed in Colombia.
