Pink Abelia Edward Goucher flowers grow beside reddish sepals

Abelia ‘Edward Goucher’

Abelia ‘Edward Goucher’ is a cultivated hybrid shrub raised in Maryland in 1911. It was selected from a cross of Abelia × grandiflora and Abelia schumannii. Its fragrant, tubular flowers are pink to lilac and can have orange markings inside the throat. Reddish sepals remain after the flowers fall, extending the color of the display. The arching plant is grown as an ornamental shrub. Photographed in Florida.
