Small creamy-white Osmanthus heterophyllus flowers cluster along a branch among narrow green leaves

Osmanthus heterophyllus

Native to eastern Asia, it is a dense evergreen shrub or small tree in the olive family. Small white flowers gather in clusters along the branches and have a strong sweet fragrance. Its holly-like foliage can have spiny teeth, while leaves on mature upper branches may have smooth edges. The species differs from true hollies in having paired rather than alternate leaves. Photographed in Colombia.
