Small red and yellow Neobartsia camporum flowers project from a slender upright stem with paired green leaves

Neobartsia camporum

Native to southeastern Peru, this herb in the broomrape family grows in tropical mountain habitats. Red and yellow tubular flowers develop along upright stems among paired toothed leaves. It is a root hemiparasite: its green leaves make food through photosynthesis, while its roots draw water and dissolved minerals from neighbouring plants. Photographed in Peru.
