Medinilla magnifica 'Royal Glow'
Of cultivated hybrid origin in the Netherlands, this upright perennial shrub is grown for its large green leaves and hanging clusters of red-purple flowers with colored bracts. The elliptical leaves can reach about ten inches long, while the branching flower clusters extend about sixteen inches. It flowers from spring through autumn in cultivation and is propagated by stem cuttings to preserve its features. It is frost tender and needs protection from temperatures below about 41°F. Photographed in Colombia.
