Native from Mexico through tropical America, this scrambling shrub or small tree occurs in moist tropical vegetation. Lateral branches bear terminal clusters of small white flowers. Each flower has five spreading lobes around a short, bell-shaped tube. Small fleshy fruits ripen red. In Colombia, the species is recorded in the Andes, Caribbean lowlands, and Magdalena Valley, principally at lower elevations. Photographed in Colombia.
