Hyophorbe indica has a long branching pale yellow inflorescence with drooping slender tips beside a narrow ringed trunk

Hyophorbe indica

Native to Réunion, this solitary palm inhabits humid forests at low and middle elevations. Its slender, ringed trunk supports a deep green crownshaft and a small crown of strongly arching, feather-like leaves. Male and female flowers occur on the same plant, carried in extensively branched inflorescences that emerge below the crownshaft. The developing flower bud is enclosed in a horn-shaped structure. Oblong fruits mature orange to red and contain one seed. The species is cultivated as an ornamental palm in warm gardens. Photographed in Florida.
