Faucaria tigrina (Tiger Jaws)
Native to the Eastern Cape of South Africa, this small, usually stemless succulent grows among rocks in openings within dense thicket vegetation. Thick, triangular leaves arise in opposite pairs and have soft, thread-like teeth along their edges, giving them the appearance of open jaws. Their color can shift from green to pinkish red or purple with sunlight. Large yellow flowers appear in autumn and winter, followed by hard seed capsules. Although widely cultivated as a potted ornamental, it is Endangered in the wild because its habitat is being lost and degraded. Photographed in Colombia.
