Vriesea carinata

Native to southeastern Brazil, Vriesea carinata is a compact epiphytic bromeliad of moist Atlantic forest. Smooth strap-shaped leaves form a water-holding rosette. A flattened inflorescence rises above the foliage with overlapping red bracts, from which narrow yellow tubular flowers emerge one at a time with projecting stamens. Photographed in Florida.
