Verbena rigida

Native to southern South America, Verbena rigida is a spreading perennial herb with rough narrow leaves and stems that can root where they touch the ground. Dense rounded clusters contain many small violet-purple flowers held above the foliage. Underground rhizomes help the plant form broad colonies in open sunny ground. Photographed in Florida.
