Native across tropical and subtropical coastal regions, Tribulus cistoides is a low spreading perennial herb adapted to sand, drought, and salt exposure. Pinnate leaves grow along prostrate stems, and large golden yellow flowers open with five broad petals. The developing fruits divide into hard segments armed with prominent spines.
