Solanum melongena

A cultivated perennial usually grown as an annual, Solanum melongena originated in Asia and is now planted throughout warm regions. Violet star-shaped flowers have five broad lobes surrounding yellow anthers, while the leaves and calyces may bear small prickles. The fruits vary greatly in size, shape, and color.
