Pitcairnia angustifolia

A terrestrial or rock-growing bromeliad native to Puerto Rico and the Lesser Antilles, Pitcairnia angustifolia forms a basal rosette of long narrow leaves. Its arching inflorescence bears widely spaced red tubular flowers with slender petals that spread at the opening. The species grows in seasonally moist tropical habitats, often on steep banks or rocky slopes. Photographed in Florida.
